Establish a routine to vacuum your area rug regularly. How often you vacuum each week will depend on how much traffic your area rug gets. Also, it's a good idea to place mats at entrances to help reduce the amount of dirt tracked onto your home.

It is important with area rugs to address spills as soon as they occur. Simply vacuum up solids. For liquids, use a clean cloth to soak them up. Do not rub the spill. Then use a manufacturer-approved cleaner to remove any lingering stains.
